How about this? We’re back!

Free Press reboots with this editor’s blog post. News stories will be added starting this Wednesday, May 1.

Make plans now to attend our reboot party at Picasso Cafe in The Paseo in Oklahoma City on Friday, May 17 from 4-6.

We will ask for your support often and without hesitation to make this a stronger effort as Free Press re-enters the news sphere of Oklahoma City.

If you are not already on our email list, sign up now by going to the yellow band at the top of this, or any other page. We want to be able to communicate.

Good reporting

We are ready to be on the front line of reporting and using our independence to pursue local Oklahoma City metro news. There is much that needs reporting for the sake of the people of this city. Voters need to be well-informed for a democratic system like city government to work.

And, there’s no such thing as too much good reporting.

It’s great to be in a position to contribute to meeting that need.

Added confidence

Two factors impact my confidence in our efforts this time around.

First, in mid-2016 when I was developing the idea, there just wasn’t much of a body of knowledge about how to develop and push forward a local, independent online news source. Some were doing it, but mostly because they were brilliant and already had experience in creating publications out of whole cloth.

But, in the past two years I’ve connected with the Local, Independent, Online News Publishers association which has been a tremendous resource as it and the practice of local online news has bloomed across the U.S. There is a much larger body of knowledge about how to do this, now.

The other change is that the marketing people I should trust became apparent to me once the pressure was off. Now, I’m having a great time collaborating with those folks. It’s good to have a team and supporters. Using the term “we” has a more complete meaning.

Forward!

Going forward, this blog will be much more focused on showing how we go about fairly reporting the news in Oklahoma City.

But before May 1, you’ll see our further thinking on taking this revived publication forward. We need your support. So, to start, put our launch party at Picosso’s on your calendar May 17 from 4-6.

But, you don’t have to leave. We will stay for conversation at the bar or outside for as long as you want to stay that evening.

I’ll see you then!
