“Officers working in an undercover capacity spotted a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been taken in a carjacking,” according to Captain Valerie Littlejohn with OKCPD. “The Jeep was backed into a parking space at The Reserve apartment complex in the 6600 block of NW 10th St. The stolen vehicle was occupied by five males. Uniformed officers were called to the scene. As the officers approached the Jeep, all five occupants fled on foot.”

During the footchase, one officer, MSgt. Ronnie Waugh “perceived a threat by one of the suspects,” said Littlejohn. “MSgt. Waugh discharged his firearm at the suspect. No one was hit by the gunfire and the suspect was taken into custody, along with three of the remaining suspects.”

MSgt. Waugh is on administrative leave until a routine investigation is concluded.

Another of the suspect was bit by a police dog “while being arrested.”

The fifth suspect has still not been caught.

“Other than the dog bite, there were no injuries suffered during this event,” said Littlejohn. “MSgt. Waugh has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.”

Note: As of publication, the information provided by the OKCPD has not yet been tested in court. Under the law, all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty before a jury of their peers or a plea of guilt.
