-- Homicide #48 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY — A 70-year-old man was found badly beaten Friday and died from his wounds Thursday.

A suspect in the beating had his arrest complaint amended from aggravated assault and battery to First Degree Manslaughter upon the death of the 70-year-old.

  • The victim is Albert Gattison, 70.
  • The suspect is Jermaine Shaquan Harvey, 22.

Beating

Oklahoma City Police Department PIO staff member Sgt. Dillon Quirk told Free Press that their department and the US Marshal’s Service members were conducting a warrant search for Gattison around NE 21st Street and Kelham Ave. Friday.

Quirk said they found Gattison lying in the front yard at 2126 N. Kelham Ave appearing to have been badly beaten. Two people were attempting to assist him.

The officers didn’t realize at first that the beaten man was the Albert Gattison they had been looking for then realized who he was.

“Gattison was taken to a local hospital where it was learned he suffered a critical head injury and was not expected to survive,” said police. “Mr. Gattison was removed from life support on August 9th and subsequently died as a result of his injuries.”

Arrest and booking

Jermaine Shaquan Harvey, 22, is the suspect in the beating and death.

He was arrested and booked in the Oklahoma County Detention Center August 6 on complaints of aggravated assault and battery.

When Gattison died from his wounds Wednesday, the complaint was changed to manslaughter in the first degree.
