Warr Acres City Council appoints Vickie Douglass Vice-Mayor

-- Appointment follows the resignation of Scott Tribbey from the role while staying on the Council

WARR ACRES, Okla. — The City of Warr Acres City Council recently chose Ward 4 Councilmember Vickie Douglas to be Vice-Mayor after Scott Tribbey bowed out of the role.

Douglass received a unanimous vote from the council.

Councilmember Lynda Steele was once again nominated to be Warr Acres’ Vice-Mayor, this time by Warr Acres’ own Mayor Roger Godwin, but she failed to receive enough votes for the position.

Tribbey’s resignation

Warr Acres Ward 2 councilmember Scott Tribbey had won the vice-mayor position in a February council meeting. Now, he’s decided to step away from the role to carry out what he described as his purpose in holding public office.

“The reason for my resignation is because I believe that my position, and what I sit up here on this council for, is to represent the best interests of the citizens who live in Ward 2 of Warr Acres…,” said Tribbey in the March Warr Acres City Council meeting. “What I believe my calling was not to be the secondary face of the City of Warr Acres.”

He had been nominated and appointed in February after Steele’s first bid for the spot failed to pass in the council.

Notably, Tribbey voted against himself in the vote for vice mayor. He received enough support from the council to be appointed, anyway.

Mayor Godwin nominates councilmember Lynda Steele

Warr Acres’ Mayor Roger Godwin led the process of electing another Vice-Mayor with a wholehearted nomination for Ward 3 Councilmember Lynda Steele

“After speaking with staff, I’m going to make a nomination for Lynda Steele.”

Mayor Godwin commended Steele’s efforts to get to know the Warr Acres government since her appointment last November.

However, councilmember Steele’s nomination for Vice-Mayor was again voted against by the council.

Vice-Mayor Vickie Douglas

The Council’s 2nd nomination came from Ward 1 councilmember Joy Myers, who chose Ward  4 councilmember Vickie Douglas.

Douglas was seated on the council in July 2023 and has an extensive background in federal investigations and genealogy research.
