The City of Oklahoma City sends this information as posted below:
The City of Oklahoma City has released a draft of the Vision Zero Action Plan designed to reduce fatal crashes, improve roadway safety and create a safer transportation system throughout Oklahoma City.
The plan is available for public review and comments on the project website until Jan. 8, 2025. The final plan is expected to be adopted in early 2025.
“Vision Zero is a comprehensive plan designed to ensure everyone who lives, works or travels in Oklahoma City can do so safely,” Justin Henry, City of Oklahoma City transportation planner, said. “The plan was compiled using crash data and over 1,200 comments from residents, and now, people can provide further input by reviewing the draft plan. Each piece of feedback helps play a vital role in shaping a safer, more connected future for our community.”
In the last five years, traffic deaths in Oklahoma City rose 34%, with 99 lives lost in 2021 alone—many on high-speed, poorly lit roads. The Vision Zero Action Plan takes a holistic approach to address critical safety challenges, prioritizing solutions that protect lives and create safer streets for all road users.
The plan outlines a vision for safer streets backed by crash analysis and targeted solutions. It also provides policy recommendations to help the city reach its Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The plan contains sections dedicated to its analysis process, solution design, study corridors, and recommendations for implementation of the plan throughout Oklahoma City.
Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan and provide comments online at vision.okc.gov. Feedback from the community will influence the final draft plan and will play a part in creating a safer road network in Oklahoma City.
