The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City sends this information as posted below:
Hundreds of soldiers traveling through Oklahoma City en route to their families this holiday season will be welcomed with festive cheer at the YMCA Military Welcome Center at the Will Rogers World Airport. For over 15 years, the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City has been providing comfort and hospitality to military personnel and their families. Volunteers will be offering pizza, sandwiches, coffee, hot chocolate, and holiday festivities, including Christmas carolers.
Since opening its doors in June 2007, the YMCA Military Welcome Center has supported over 500,000 military personnel. This event will provide a warm, welcoming environment for soldiers traveling during the holidays, making their transition smoother and more enjoyable.
Night 1 (Dec. 19-20) is expected to see around 500 soldiers and Night 2 (Dec. 20-21) is expected to see around 800.
On both nights, TSA opens between 3am and 4am and departures begin at 5am.
This event is part of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City’s long-standing commitment to supporting military personnel and their families. The YMCA Military Welcome Center, a collaboration between the City of Oklahoma City, Will Rogers World Airport, the Armed Services YMCA, and the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, operates primarily with the help of volunteers and community donations, creating a home-like atmosphere for soldiers passing through the airport.
