The Oklahoma City Utilities Department sends this information as posted below:
To give customers in Southeast OKC more time to gather and set out their storm debris, the Utilities Department has scheduled a third round of storm debris collection for areas affected by the Nov. 3 tornadoes.
Storm debris pick-up will begin Jan. 6, 2025. This final collection is for residential trash customers in the designated areas at okc.gov/debrismap. There will be no storm debris collection in the area until Jan. 6.
Customers in the designated collection areas must have all debris curbside before Jan. 6.
“We understand that those affected by the tornadoes are dealing with a host of challenges as they work to restore normalcy to their lives,” Utilities Director Chris Browning said. “This additional pass provides extra time and support for customers to get their debris collected.”
2,207 tons of debris have been collected to date.
Regular trash and recycling collection are not impacted and will continue as usual.
Regular bulky waste collection service will also continue. Collection will occur using the normal bulky service collection schedule.
To determine your normal bulky service collection date, refer to the My Trash Day map at okc.gov/mytrashday.
Regular bulky waste collection set-out guidelines (i.e. accepted materials) remain the same. For those in the designated collection areas who did not sustain storm damage, standard fees apply for piles greater than 4 cubic yards.
Final pass for storm debris collection
Beginning Jan. 6, contractor crews will resume their storm debris collection in the designated areas.
This final pass will begin the same as the first two—starting in the impacted area near SE 89th Street and Sooner Road and repeating the entire process.
A debris map showing the clean-up progress is available at okc.gov/debrismap. When debris collection is taking place, the map is updated daily.
If you still need to set out debris, remember the following:
- Storm debris (construction materials, trees, limbs and fencing) should be set out and left out, any time before Jan. 6.
- Storm debris should be placed at the curb for collection.
- Cut tree limbs to a length of 10 feet or shorter.
- Do not cover water meters, gas meters or set debris close to any obstructions such as mailboxes or vehicles.
- Do not park on the street, if possible.
- Products considered hazardous, such as pool chemicals, motor oil, gasoline, antifreeze and pesticides, should only be disposed of through the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center located at 1621 S Portland Ave.
- Appliances that contain freon, such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, cannot be collected as part of the special storm debris collection. For City crews to collect these types of items, customers are asked to call Utilities Customer Service at (405) 297-2833 to request the items be collected.
Following the third pass, regular bulky collection service will resume using the normal collection schedule, guidelines and fees.
For more information related to storm debris collection and bulky service, go to okc.gov/utilities or contact Utilities Customer Service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (405) 297-2833.
