The City of OKC sends this information as posted below:
Oklahoma City leaders today recognized the Community Public Safety Advisory Board’s first full year of service during a reception at City Hall.
“We remain grateful for the work of these volunteers who are willing to give their time to ensure that our public safety services meet the expectations of our residents,” said Mayor David Holt. “Led by Chair Dianna Berry, they’ve achieved a lot this past year. They’ve successfully created a platform where residents can share their concerns and work with our police department to address them.”
The Community Public Safety Advisory Board serves as a permanent, independent committee in Oklahoma City that reviews the complaint investigative process and results of completed department investigations involving Oklahoma City public safety employees.
Since its inception, the CPSAB has reviewed 61 cases, including 42 resident complaints, two in-custody deaths and 17 officer-involved shootings. From that review, they have issued 57 letters supporting the outcome of the case investigation and four letters recommending improvements to the investigative process. The board was instrumental in developing an online OKCPD Employee Compliment and Complaint Form in English, Spanish and Vietnamese for residents to share feedback about their interactions with public safety employees.
In the last year, the CPSAB also has held two public info sessions, one each in Ward 2 and Ward 6. The info sessions aim to share information about that board’s purpose, activities and accomplishments with residents. Info sessions are planned in remaining wards later this year.
“The unwavering and passionate service of the CPSAB demonstrates the city’s and board members’ willingness to listen to its residents and continually improve its public safety policies for the communities it serves,” said Dianna Berry, CPSAB Chair and at-large Member. “There is much pride in the work we’ve done this year in building community trust and confidence in public safety through both communication and education.”
The board is a product of the Public Safety Partnership. The establishment of the board, its work, and the support provided from the City are recommendations included in a report received by City Council in March 2022 to enhance public safety for all OKC residents.
