The Oklahoma Arts Council is seeking an artist or a collaborative artist team to create installation artwork at the Jim Thorpe Office Building located across from the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City. The building, nearly a century old, is currently being renovated. Locations for the public artwork will include the ceilings of the first-floor hallways and sixth-floor elevator landing—highly visible and publicly accessible areas.
The vision for this monumental project is a dynamic and visually striking public artwork inspired by the legendary achievements of Jim Thorpe, capturing the spirit of his extraordinary athleticism, his Native American heritage, and his enduring legacy. The artwork should also complement the building’s distinctive Art Deco style, blending modern creativity with the historic architectural design.
The artist or artist team will receive $332,500 to create the artwork.
Deadline for submissions is May 6, 2025. Download the RFQ for complete details about the project.
