Penn Square restaurant working to open again after fire

OKLAHOMA CITY — Owners of the Texas de Brazil restaurant connected to Penn Square Mall are working hard to recover from a fire Sunday.

When Free Press called Tuesday morning, the person who answered said they are planning to open Tuesday evening but did not have a time.

Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD) firefighters responded to a fire alarm Sunday at 11:39 a.m. for what ended up being a three-alarm fire in the ventilation system ductwork of the restaurant according to a press release from Public Information Officer and Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson.

“Operating from the interior and from the roof, firefighters utilized hand lines and fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire. The mall was evacuated as fire operations ensued,” said Fulkerson.

OKCFD fire investigators called to the scene believe from their investigation that the fire started in the ventilation ductwork above the grill/rotisserie in Texas de Brazil.

The OKCFD estimates the loss to be $150,000.
