One punch, and an OKC man is dead — suspect booked Sunday

OKLAHOMA CITY — A man died at the hospital Sunday after being punched once in a westside OKC motel parking lot the day before.

Hemant Shantilal Mistry died at an area hospital at 7:40 PM Sunday from his injuries.

Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched to a motel in the 4200 block of West I-40 Serice Road Saturday night around 10:00 PM on reports of an assault.

When officer arrived they found Hemant Mistry, 59 who had already been injured.

From their initial investigation at the scene, the officers believed that Mistry was connected to the motel administration in some way and was trying to get Richard Lewis, 41 to leave the property with some of his belongings he had with him according to Sgt. Dillon Quirk with OKCPD.

Officers also learned that in the process Lewis punched Mistry one time hard enough to knock him unconscious.

Mistry was transported to the hospital where he was treated until his death Sunday night.

Lewis was arrested Sunday and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of Aggravated Assault and Battery with a $100,000 bond set.

Sgt. Quirk said that the investigation is still in its early stages. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the OKCPD Homicide Tip Line at 405/297-1111.
