ME rules 20-year-old’s death from effects of mother’s 1999 murder

-- Homicide #52 for OKC in 2022

OKLAHOMA CITY (Free Press) — A child that was rescued from death by emergency birth as her mother was dying from stab wounds in 1999 later died in 2019.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office has now determined that the death of Kasiah J’Day Scott 23 years later at the Bethany Children’s Health Center was from complications of her mother’s knife wounds and death just before her birth.

The center specializes in the field of pediatric rehabilitation and 24-hour complex care.

News reports from 1999 say that the mother was brought to Integris Southwest Medical Center “with no pulse” and the child was birthed by Caesarean section. The baby was then taken to Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Now, 21 years later, the Oklahoma City Police Department has announced the death as homicide #52 of 2022 because the ME’s office just released the report.

News reports from 1999 portrayed the scene in the 4700 block of Sunnyview Drive as a gruesome one.

Both parents had been stabbed and were bleeding profusely when neighbors attempted to come to their aid.

Eventually police arrested two men in the stabbings.

James Patrick Lesley and Ricardo Virgo Blonner were convicted for the homicide in 1999 and are currently in prison.

“Investigators are still processing this report but we expect the death to be presented to the DA for charges,” OKCPD Sgt. Dillon Quirk told Free Press.
