Juvenile arrested for State Fair shooting that caused panic

OKLAHOMA CITY — A 17-year-old has been arrested for shooting another person in the chest at the Oklahoma State Fair Saturday night.

The victim continues to recover having been transported to the hospital that night in critical condition.

The shooting occurred during an altercation between two groups of young men near the doors just inside the Bennett Event Center.

As we reported Saturday, throngs of people at the busy Saturday night of the fair rushed for the gates — some clearly in a panic from the videos taken by the public — and created traffic jams across the fairgrounds as they tried to get off of the property.

At the time, there was a heavy police presence along the midway where the heaviest parts of the crowd were taking in the rides.

As we reported, two persons were taken into custody for questioning but that’s all we knew that evening.

Tuesday morning, OKCPD provided Free Press with a copy of the police report showing the arrest of one 17-year-old. The complaint at booking was Aggravated Assault.

A spokesperson for the Oklahoma County DA told Free Press that their office has not been presented with a case from OKCPD as of Tuesday morning.

We also now know that the victim was taken to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
