Jury finds one guilty in 2022 Southside OKC murder

-- Co-defendant scheduled for trial at the end of August

OKLAHOMA CITY — A man charged with murder in the shooting death of Michael Crawford in July 2022 was found guilty by a jury in June.

The jury found defendant Marc Owens guilty of Murder in the First Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance – Marijuana on June 27 according to a press release from Oklahoma County DA Vicki Zemp Behenna.

Free Press reported in 2022 that officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were sent to the parking lot of the Mayridge Apartments at 2805 S.W. 42nd St. on Sunday, May 24 on reports of a shooting.

Police found Crawford lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, and was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

From interviews at the scene, officers believed that Crawford and Owens had been standing in the parking lot together before the shooting.

The jury recommended a sentence of Life for the murder conviction and one year for the possession conviction.

The formal sentencing of Owens by the court will be on July 30.

The State dismissed a third count.

But, on the day of his arrest July 26, 2022, Oklahoma County Jail records show that Owen was booked on a total of seven complaints which included the murder and possession complaints.

Judge Cindy Truong denied Bond in Owens’ preliminary hearing that same day.

Codefendant

A codefendant, Lamontta Taylor, was charged with Murder in the First Degree and will go on trial in August 2024.

Oklahoma County Jail records show that Taylor was arrested in April 2023 and was denied bond in his preliminary hearing in May 2023.

DA Behenna filed criminal felony charges against Owens and Taylor on August 26, 2022.
