PRESS RELEASE: Vote for where Fertile Ground’s new food scrap drop-off sites will be!

Fertile Ground Cooperative sends this information as posted below:

Do you want a food scrap drop-off site near you? Fertile Ground Cooperative (OKC’s local composting facility) is launching 20 COMMUNITY FOOD SCRAP DROP-OFF sites in Central Oklahoma. This is your chance to vote on where these sites will be located!

WHAT is composting? Composting is the controlled decay of organic materials, like food scraps. The goal is to create compost, a dark, crumbly, earthy-smelling soil amendment that adds nutrients to the soil.

WHY is composting important? By adding your food scraps to the drop-off bin, you are reducing waste, cutting methane emissions from landfills, improving our soil, lessening soil erosion, and conserving water if you choose to add completed compost to your yard or garden, which we recommend.

WHO can use these drop-off sites? These Community Food Scrap Drop-Off Sites will be open to the public for FREE for the next two years. All you have to do is scan the QR code on the sign at your drop-off location, watch a short video about what can and cannot go in the bin, take a short quiz to check your understanding, and then you will receive a combination code to open the bin (you only need to do this once).

WHEN will we be able to use the drop-off sites? The goal is to start collection in September, but you have only until July 12 to vote for drop-off site locations.
