OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City residents can start the year with a clean slate by addressing outstanding warrants through the Municipal Court’s penalty reduction program.
Every year, people in the metro lose their driver’s licenses and cannot drive to their jobs because of outstanding warrants.
The program applies to warrants issued for unpaid municipal tickets for Class “A” offenses dated on or before Dec. 31, 2022. Eligible citations will have reduced fees, costing less than the original amount if paid on time.
For example, a speeding ticket in warrant status typically costs up to $613, including $420 in fines, costs, and fees, plus a $193 failure-to-appear charge. Through the program, the total cost can be reduced to $155.
“This program is perfect for people ready to pay their municipal tickets and start the year off on the right foot,” said Court Administrator and Assistant City Manager LaShawn Thompson. “You will never be jailed if you voluntarily come in to address any warrant issued in Oklahoma City Municipal Court.”
Those experiencing financial difficulties can request a hearing with a judge to determine their ability to pay. Judges can waive or reduce fines, costs, and fees for individuals who cannot afford them.
To pay your ticket or request a hearing, call (405) 297-3898 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except holidays. You can also visit the Municipal Court Customer Service Window at 701 Couch Dr., open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. For more information or to make an online payment, visit okc.gov/court.
