PRESS RELEASE: Weather cancels Jan. 9 HUD funds public meeting; residents can share input on vision.okc.gov

The City of Oklahoma City workshop tonight at Ralph Ellison Library has been canceled due to inclement weather. The workshop was to gather input on how the City spends U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program funds.

HUD funding is used for things like affordable housing, economic and workforce development, neighborhood revitalization and support services for people experiencing homelessness.

There are three additional ways residents can provide input about what projects they would like the City to fund.

  • Complete a budget activity online at vision.okc.gov.
  • Attend the last in-person public meeting is Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Library, 327 SW 27th St.
  • People can email their input to HCD@okc.gov.

All feedback gathered will be used to create a five-year Consolidated Plan.

“The Consolidated Plan is important because it helps the City assess our affordable housing and community development needs, make data-driven investment decisions and shape our housing and community development programs into an effective, coordinated strategy,” Ben Davis, Principal Planner for the City’s Housing and Community Development Division, said. “These meetings provide a vital opportunity for residents to provide input to help guide decision-making. We encourage everyone who is interested in these topics to attend.”

About the Consolidated Plan

The Consolidated Plan outlines the City’s housing and community development needs, which then inform priorities for four major HUD grant programs: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA). The City’s Consolidated Plan is updated every five years. The Plan represents a strategic vision for federal grant funding in Oklahoma City and is used to guide decision-making on which activities are funded each year.

The Consolidated Plan is carried out through Annual Action Plans. The Action Plans are concise summaries of the actions, activities, and specific federal and non-federal resources that will be used each year to address the needs and goals identified by the Consolidated Plan.

HUD funds can be used for a wide variety of activities but generally must provide a direct benefit for low- and moderate-income populations in the City. These funds are often matched with private or local funding to maximize their impact.
