Feds charge Oklahoma City man with theft of U.S. mail

-- Possible 10-year prison sentence plus hefty fines

OKLAHOMA CITY — United States Attorney Robert J. Troester announced that TARYAN NABOND PRINCE-SADLER, 18, of Oklahoma City was arrested this week on charges of unlawful possession of a stolen United States Postal Service (USPS) arrow key and theft of stolen mail.

According to public records, Prince-Sadler was charged with possession of a stolen USPS arrow key and larceny of stolen mail by criminal complaint on April 17, 2023.

USPS accesses collection boxes, outdoor parcel containers, cluster box units, and apartment panels using universal arrow keys.

An affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, alleges that the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) received numerous complaints from customers reporting that mail items containing checks placed in USPS collection boxes were stolen and subsequently altered, forged, or counterfeited. In addition, the affidavit alleges that victims reported the checks were approved through their financial institutions frequently via mobile deposit/electronic banking methods.

According to the affidavit, USPIS conducted a law enforcement operation on April 17, 2023, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Prince-Sadler.

Prince-Sadler made his initial appearance on the complaint in Oklahoma City federal court on April 18, 2023. He was released on bail pending further court proceedings.

If convicted of illegal possession of a stolen USPS arrow key, the defendant faces up to ten years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment. If convicted of mail theft, the defendant faces up to five years in federal incarceration, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment. The defendant would also be required to serve up to three years of supervised release for each count.

The public is reminded that these charges are only accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Danielle London.
