Annual Friends of the Library Booksale coming up Feb. 25-26

OKLAHOMA CITY — The 43rd annual Friends of the Library Booksale, regarded as the biggest used book sale west of the Mississippi River, is just around the corner.

On February 25 and 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the sale will be held in Oklahoma City at the Oklahoma Expo Hall at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.

At this yearly public event, the Friends of the Library of the Metropolitan Library System are giving thousands of reasonably priced books in addition to other items.

For Friends group members only, EARLY SHOPPING will be accessible on February 24 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. By going to supportmls.org/fol/membership, those who want to join the Friends can do so until noon on February 23 for as little as $15. At the sale, no memberships will be sold.

Educators and charitable organizations are welcome to visit the sale on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 and collect any unsold items for free. Visit supportmls.org/npt for more details and to register.

Prices

Books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, and digital audio books/PlayAways are all available at the event. Hardbacks cost $2.00 and paperbacks cost $1.00 each in the general department. Paperbacks for kids cost $0.50 each.

The majority of the products in the Better Books Room have an individual price range between $2 and $5.

Prices for the general section’s offerings can be found online at supportmls.org/fol/booksale.

The sale’s proceeds are put toward improving the Metro community and our libraries. Most of Oklahoma County’s Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has opened thanks to donations from the Friends. So far, the Friends have given more than $5 million in grants to the Metropolitan Library System.

Volunteers needed

This enormous annual event relies heavily on volunteers to succeed. Visit supportmls.org/volunteer to register as a volunteer. Each volunteer is given a free T-shirt, service hours, and the opportunity to buy goods before the members’ sale. On Sunday nights, members are welcome to shop and take advantage of the free materials.

About

The Friends of the Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises money to help the Metropolitan Library System.

The Friends receive funding from membership dues paid annually and from book sales, including those made through their Amazon site. Together with the library’s 19 branches, they accept donations of used books, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records. These donations can be made at each branch’s sort site as well as at the branch itself. The Metropolitan Library System, which has 19 locations plus a kiosk open around-the-clock for picking up holds and returning materials in Edmond’s Mitch Park, serves citizens of Oklahoma County.

Everyone who resides in Oklahoma County, goes to school there, or owns property is covered by the system. In addition to seven million physical goods, MLS now circulates three million eBooks and eAudiobooks annually.
