OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) confirmed Friday that one person in the state has tested positive for measles and may have exposed others during a visit to a Norman bar while contagious.
Officials said the exposure occurred at Logie’s on the Corner, located at 749 Asp Ave. in Norman, between 9:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and 1:30 a.m. Jan. 25.
Individuals who were at the location during that time and are unvaccinated, unsure of their vaccination status, or have concerns are urged to fill out a contact form on the OSDH website. Health officials will follow up between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week, to provide guidance.
Those who may have been exposed and lack immunity — either through vaccination or prior infection — should stay out of public settings for 21 days following their potential exposure date, OSDH officials said.
Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms, fever or a new rash illness after visiting the business during the exposure window should also self-isolate and immediately call a health care provider before visiting a clinic or hospital to prevent further spread. Health care providers should be informed about both the symptoms and the possible exposure.
The public can also notify the Epidemiologist-on-Call at 405-426-8710 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
Measles is highly contagious and can spread up to four days before and after the appearance of the rash, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Health providers urged to report suspected cases
Under Oklahoma Administrative Code 310:515, measles is classified as an “immediately notifiable reportable disease.” Any suspected, tested or confirmed measles case must be reported immediately to the state health department. The Epidemiologist-on-Call is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive these reports.
“Delays in reporting can limit our ability to investigate and notify the public in time to prevent additional exposure,” the department stated in its release.
Additional updates and exposure locations will be posted at Oklahoma.gov/health/measles as they are identified.
