OKLAHOMA CITY — Two have been booked for murder when a man died in April from a “severe beating” he received during a domestic-related fight in 2022.

Booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center for second-degree murder are:

  • Djuna Jeanette Hopkins, 59
  • Kenneth Gene Banks, 40

In October 2022 Oklahoma City Police Department detectives were sent to follow up on an assault that resulted in Gregory R. Lewis, 60, being hospitalized.

Lewis died at his home April 24 this year.

Then, August 11, the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide “connected to injuries Lewis received from the physical assault,” said the police press release.

From their investigation, OKCPD detectives believe that Lewis was beaten badly in his residence at 5700 S. Agnew Avenue during a domestic dispute October 20, 2022.

They believe Lewis left on foot after the beating and was found the following day and transported to an area hospital by way of ambulance. It was discovered Lewis had suffered a brain injury. He was later released from the hospital.

This is homicide #51 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2023.
