Three booked for south OKC shootout — 1 killed, 13 wounded

— (UPDATED) Homicide #68 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY — Police have identified and booked three suspects and one person killed in the bloody south OKC shootout in the dark early hours of Saturday morning.

Monday, MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed to Free Press that 14 was their latest count of persons known wounded in the shooting near SW 59th and Penn.

One of those shot was 19-year-old Gerardo Sandoval, who died at the scene.

Sandoval’s death marks homicide #68 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024.

Shootout

The incident started with a dispute between Sandoval and one or two others during a Halloween party at Patty’s Event Center, 5878 S Agnew Ave in Oklahoma City, according to a press release by Sgt. Dillon Quirk with OKCPD.

When patrol officers were dispatched to the scene they found Sandoval already dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers also found the others who had been wounded by gunfire, some of whom were sent to a local hospital for treatment.

Arrests of suspects

After their initial investigation, detectives now believe that after the Sandoval shooting, the conflict spread to a further exchange of gunfire resulting in the 13 others who were wounded but not killed.

Two suspects have been captured and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on First-Degree Murder complaints. They are:

A third person was arrested and booked into the OCDC on multiple complaints of Assault with a Deadly Weapon for his alleged participation in the shootout. He is:

Police caution that the investigation is still in its early stages and encourage anyone with information to call the Homicide Tip Line at 405/297-1200.
