Oklahoma City Public Schools Releases Draft Goals and Guardrails for Public Review

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is pleased to announce the release of its draft goals and guardrails, now available on the district’s website for public review. Shaped by extensive feedback from parents and community members, the goals serve as key performance benchmarks for the district while the guardrails function as critical protections that ensures that progress does not come at the expense of the community’s core values.

The goals and guardrails align with the OKCPS vision: By providing access to a world-class education, every Oklahoma City Public Schools student will graduate ready to fulfill their unique purpose in a healthy, vibrant community.

“This draft is more than a set of targets. It’s a systems-level commitment to our students and community,” said OKCPS Superintendent Jamie Polk. “Our goals set the academic outcomes we aim to achieve, while the guardrails ensure our path forward honors what our community values most. By anchoring this work in broad stakeholder input, we are building a sustainable framework that prioritizes literacy, leadership and real-world readiness for each child.”

The development of these goals and guardrails began last fall as part of the district’s Voices for the Future initiative, which actively engaged stakeholders to support broad community representation in the process. Through surveys, meetings and discussions, OKCPS gathered more than 16,000 comments and pieces of feedback from parents and community members, playing a crucial role in shaping the future direction of the district.

The feedback collected in these sessions, along with the goals and guardrails, will help shape the district’s strategic plan for the next five years, ensuring alignment with the vision and values of the community. The Board was intentional in collecting feedback from every part of our community, including students, parents, caregivers, teachers and local leaders, to build a framework that reflects the needs and hopes of all stakeholders.

In an effort to maintain transparency and continue fostering collaboration, OKCPS is sharing the draft goals and guardrails ahead of its June 9 board meeting where the Board of Education will hold a final discussion and move toward adoption.

OKCPS invites families, staff, and community members to review the drafted goals and provide feedback to their Board of Education Representative. The district remains committed to providing every student with a high-quality education that prepares them for a bright future.
