PRESS RELEASE: Key to Home Partnership requests donations to help people experiencing homelessness stay warm

The City of Oklahoma City’s Key to Home Partnership sends this information as posted below:

The Key to Home Partnership is asking the community for donations to help people experiencing homelessness in Oklahoma City stay safe and warm during the cold winter months.

As temperatures begin to drop, warm clothing and additional layers are necessary to combat the bitter cold, especially for those sleeping outside.

Key to Home is requesting essential winter items, including:

  • Mylar blankets.
  • Gloves, scarves and hats.
  • Thick socks.
  • Ready-to-eat meals.
  • Hygiene items.

“Winter is especially dangerous for those without stable housing,” Jamie Caves, Strategy Implementation Manager for the Key to Home Partnership, said. “These donated items are more than just supplies—they’re lifelines for our neighbors in need.”

Key to Home’s website, keytohomeokc.org, provides a full list of needed items and a link to its Amazon Wishlist. Items can also be dropped off at the front desk of City Hall, 200 N Walker Ave. Monetary contributions to support housing for people experiencing homelessness are also greatly appreciated and can be made at cfok.org/keytohome.

Key to Home Partnership has housed 332 people living outdoors since September 2023.

About the Key to Home Partnership

The Key to Home Partnership was launched in April 2023 to address homelessness differently, align resources and coordinate efforts across the community. Key to Home is a public-private partnership of over 50 agencies working together in new ways to address homelessness in Oklahoma City.

The Key to Home Partnership’s action plan is to reduce homelessness through housing. The four goals for 2023-2025 include:

  1. Create a new governing system.
  2. Address homelessness differently by improving infrastructure and capacity.
  3. Achieve a reduction in Youth Homelessness by rehousing or diverting 100 youth by 2025.
  4. Achieve a reduction in unsheltered homelessness by rehousing 500 people experiencing unsheltered homelessness by 2025.
