PRESS RELEASE: City Council selects YMCA of Greater OKC to operate MAPS 4 Senior Wellness Center

The City of OKC sends this information as posted below:

The Oklahoma City Council voted this week to select the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City as the operating partner for the MAPS 4 senior health and wellness center project.

“The MAPS senior centers have proven to be life-changing, connecting OKC’s seniors to wellness, recreational and social opportunities,” MAPS Program Manager David Todd said. “The YMCA has demonstrated their expertise and commitment to serving seniors as operators of the fourth MAPS 3 wellness center, and we are confident that this partnership will benefit the senior resident community for years to come.”

MAPS 4 includes $31.7 million to continue the transformation that MAPS 3 started in the lives of Oklahoma City seniors. The project includes $16.7 million for a fifth senior wellness center and $15 million for operations, maintenance and to provide scholarships for low-income seniors using the MAPS wellness centers.

“At the YMCA, we recognize the importance of supporting older adults in leading active and fulfilling lives,” YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City President & CEO Kelly Kay said. “The new MAPS 4 YMCA Healthy Living Center will provide seniors with affordable access to healthy aging amenities and services, including community-building opportunities to reduce isolation and loneliness. The facility is a testament to our commitment to providing the resources and opportunities seniors need to thrive.”

The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City operates 15 health and recreational centers, including the MAPS 3 Healthy Living Center on S. Western, which opened earlier this year. The MAPS 3 center has more than 2,500 members with 65,000 total check-ins to date since May. The new center is currently the fourth busiest in the Oklahoma City metro area.

The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City will partner with Daily Living Centers and INTEGRIS Health to create a transformative senior wellness center that emphasizes holistic well-being. This collaborative effort will bring together the expertise of healthcare professionals, adaptive fitness specialists and adult day service providers to offer comprehensive support for seniors. By combining resources and expertise, the YMCA and partners will ensure the new wellness center fosters an inclusive environment where older adults can thrive physically, mentally and socially.

The operating partner will work with the City and the architect to select a site location. Design is scheduled to begin this year with construction to start in 2026.

About MAPS 4

MAPS 4 is a debt-free public improvement program funded by a temporary penny sales tax that will raise a projected $1.07 billion over eight years. Oklahoma City voters approved the sales tax to fund MAPS 4 in a special election on Dec. 10, 2019, moving forward with a unique and ambitious plan to transform our community. The temporary penny sales tax funding MAPS 4 began April 1, 2020, and ends in 2028. More than 70 percent of MAPS 4 funding is dedicated to neighborhood and human needs. The rest is for quality of life and job-creating initiatives. The MAPS 4 Citizens Advisory Board and its six subcommittees will guide MAPS 4 planning and implementation, making recommendations to the City Council. The Council has final authority on MAPS 4. The MAPS Investment and Operating Trust developed a strategic investment plan to support long-term sustainable funding for MAPS 4 projects’ operational expenses and maintenance.
