Oklahoma City’s Chief Financial Officer, Brent Bryant, has been named Assistant City Manager by City Manager Craig Freeman.
The Assistant City Manager position is the second-highest-ranking position in the City. The position is responsible for overseeing departments and ensuring efficient City operations.
Bryant began his Oklahoma City career in 1991 as an internal auditor in the City Auditor’s Office. He served in various positions over the next 34 years and has been the Chief Financial Officer since 2019.
“Brent has successfully led some of the City’s most complex financial programs over the years,” City Manager Craig Freeman said. “Among many other accomplishments, he managed 16 of the City’s 21 Tax Increment Financing Districts, was responsible for developing the City’s $2 billion budget and managed the GO bond and trust debt totaling $2.2 billion.”
Positions he’s held with the City include internal auditor, contract coordinator, management and budget analyst, management and budget specialist, interim risk manager, business manager, economic development program manager and chief financial officer. Bryant was a 2018 recipient of Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership’s prestigious Stanley Draper Award for his contributions to downtown.
Bryant will oversee 5 departments. He is replacing Laura Johnson, who retired on March 14 after 45 years with the City.
“I’m honored and blessed to serve in the role,” Bryant said. “I love Oklahoma City. I have had the privilege to help change the very fabric of our great City in my roles in Finance Administration and the City Manager’s Office. I look forward to this new chapter.”
Department assignments are as follows:
- Brent Bryant: Finance, Public Works, Utilities, MAPS and the Office of Equity.
- Aubrey McDermid: Parks and Recreation, Planning, Public Information, Development Services and venue contract facilitation.
- LaShawn Thompson: Airports, General Services, Human Resources, City Clerk, General Services, Municipal Courts and Zoo.
- Ferbrache: Fire, Police, Information Technology and Public Transportation and Parking and law enforcement policy implementation.
The Assistant City Managers report to the City Manager, who oversees day-to-day operations, a staff of 5,000 employees and an operating budget of $918 million. The City Manager reports to the City Council at the top of Oklahoma City’s council-manager form of government.
Bryant and his wife, Lori, have two adult children, Courtney and Cooper.
