This February, the Metropolitan Library System invites guests to honor Black History Month through a variety of engaging programs and activities. From thought-provoking discussions to hands-on workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while exploring the rich history and culture of the Black community. Standout events include:

1921 Race Massacre: Survivor Stories with Dr. Karlos Hill

  • When: Feb. 15, 2–3:30 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown OKC Library Auditorium (4th Floor)
  • Join us for a powerful discussion on systemic racism. Dr. Karlos Hill will share stories from survivors that show its long-lasting effects, pushing us to face historical truths and work towards fairness and justice.

Rap Workshop with Emmy-Winning Artist Jabee

  • When: Feb. 22, 11 a.m.–12 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown OKC Library Atrium (1st Floor)
  • Kids and teens are invited to explore creativity in this interactive rap workshop led by local artist and activist Jabee.

Ralph Ellison Library Events

Our Ralph Ellison Library, named for the acclaimed Oklahoma City author, will offer a series of dynamic programs. 

  • Scavenger Hunts, Quizzes & Exhibits: Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy scavenger hunts, quizzes and an exhibit about Black inventors. Discover displays, books and historical items that highlight the amazing accomplishments of Black pioneers
  • Special Programs:
    • Ice Cream Man: Celebrating Augustus Jackson on Feb. 6 for kids.
    • DIY Sugar and Salt Scrubs for Self-Care on Feb. 6 for teens and adults.
    • Black History Jeopardy Adventure on Feb. 17 for kids and teens.
    • Movie Night with Urban Poets on Feb. 24 for teens and adults.
