Police kill armed woman after they say she pointed pistol at officers

- The killing is the 29th homicide and 4th police shooting for OKC in 2026.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Police are reporting that an officer shot and killed a southside woman in the early hours of Wednesday morning, ending a four-hour standoff that began when calls came in of her firing a gun indoors and ended when police say she pointed a pistol at officers.

Around 8:30pm Tuesday night, OKC police received a call about a woman firing a gun inside her apartment in the 1100 block of SW 60th St., near SW 59th St. and Western Ave.

When they arrived at the scene, they identified the woman in the apartment as 45-year-old Brenda Deer, but say they were unable to make contact with her or to enter the apartment, forcing them to obtain a warrant for search and arrest.

During that time, police claim they repeatedly tried to convince her to surrender and to employ non-leathal methods of ending the standoff.

At just before 1:00am, officers with the OKCPD Tactical Unit arrived and attempted to serve the warrant.

It was at that time, after entering the apartment, that officers claim Deer pointed a pistol at them, resulting in police firing on Deer and killing her.

Information sent to press Wednesday by the OKCPD implied that only one officer shot and killed Deer, but their identity has not yet been released.

In accordance with department policy, that officer has been placed on administrative leave as a full internal investigation into the killing begins.

Brenda Deer’s death will be recorded as OKC’s 29th homicide in 2026, as well as the fourth police shooting this year.

Note: Charges, information, or claims made by law enforcement have not yet been tested in court. Under the law, all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty before a jury of their peers or a plea of guilt.

Free Press will provide more information regarding this death and ensuing investigation if and when it becomes available.
