Murder-suicide cause of 5 killed in SW OKC, say police

-- Homicides #22, 23, 24 & 25 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY (Free Press) — The five persons found dead in their home in far western Oklahoma City Monday are believed to have died from a murder-suicide according to police.

The only surviving member of the family, the 10-year-old youngest child who was “unharmed,” according to police, is believed to be the one who called 911. That child has been placed with relatives.

By Tuesday morning, detectives and crime scene investigators with the Oklahoma City Police Department had processed the home.

From their investigation, detectives believe the deaths were from the father killing the other family members with a gun and then turning the gun on himself, said OKCPD MSgt. Gary Knight.

Knight held a news conference Tuesday morning to give an update about what police believe happened.

Names

These are the names of those who OKCPD patrol officers found dead Monday as released by that department:

Victim #1: Lindsay Candy, 39 – mother

Victim #2: Dylan Candy, 18

Victim #3: Ethan Candy, 14

Victim #4: Lucas Candy, 12

Deceased Suspect: Jonathon Candy, 42 – father

‘Massacre’

“It’s unclear what made him want to go through the home killing his children,” said Knight. “But, make no mistake about it, what happened in that residence is nothing short of a massacre.”

“Those children were hunted down and killed like the woman was killed,” Knight added.

But, there is no history of domestic abuse in the home and the department has no record in their system of ever being called to the home for “domestic problems,” said Knight.

Knight also said that they have no other suspects but the investigation will continue.

The home is at 2804 Mirage Street within the sprawling City of Oklahoma City limits in the far west metro about halfway between Yukon and Mustang.

The children in that neighborhood attend Mustang Public Schools as did the children in that home.
