OKLAHOMA CITY — The death of an 80-year-old man who was injured during an altercation at a south Oklahoma City nursing home in October has been ruled a homicide, police confirmed Wednesday.
Jerry W. Gibson, born Nov. 30, 1943, was injured on Oct. 12 at a care facility in the 5700 block of South Ross Avenue. Gibson and another resident were involved in an altercation, during which Gibson fell and fractured his hip, according to SSgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Gibson was taken to a hospital for treatment but died on Oct. 20, eight days after the incident.
It was homicide #27 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2025.
Police were notified of the incident on Oct. 23. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that Gibson’s death was a homicide.
Police believe the altercation led directly to the injury that caused his death. The case remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether any criminal charges will be filed.
Authorities have not released the identity of the other resident involved in the altercation.
No arrests have been made. The case will be presented to the Oklahoma County DA, who will decide if any charges will be applied.
