OKLAHOMA CITY — A man is facing second-degree murder charges after police alleged he accidentally shot his girlfriend while recklessly handling firearms in the backseat of a car on May 9.
The woman died from the wound the next day.
It was homicide #21 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2025.
The probable cause affidavit filed by Oklahoma City Police Department Detective Brandi Streeter gives what police believe to be the turn of events that led to the death and arrest.
According to the affidavit, Tymaine Reed, 25, and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Audry Elizondo were celebrating their one-year anniversary on the night of May 9.
The couple, who lived together, had been drinking at several locations before meeting up with another couple at Scorecards bar.
The group decided to leave Tymaine’s vehicle at his home and ride together in the other man’s car. The couples stopped at a 7-Eleven near NW 10th Street and May Avenue around 1:15 a.m. While the other couple went inside the store, Tymaine and his girlfriend remained in the backseat.
Police believe Tymaine was intoxicated and in possession of a Glock 19 handgun. He admitted to also retrieving a second firearm from the front seat, which belonged to the male driver.
The affidavit states that while the couple took selfies in the backseat, Tymaine posed with both pistols—one in each hand—and handled them unsafely, including placing his finger inside a trigger well.
Tymaine told police that after comparing the two guns, he attempted to return the second weapon to the front of the vehicle when it discharged, striking his girlfriend in the right cheek. He then ran into the store to get the other couple, who drove the group to a nearby hospital.
Selfies taken at the scene corroborated elements of Tymaine’s account, according to police.
Per standard procedure when a gunshot wound victim is brought to an emergency room, St. Anthony Hospital notified police who came to investigate.
According to the affidavit, when police first interviewed Reed, he denied that he had been the one who shot Elizondo and said that she had shot herself.
However, after further questioning, he admitted that he was holding the gun that shot the woman.
Reed was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center late May 9 on a complaint of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous weapon.
After Elizondo’s death, Reed was charged with Second Degree Murder. He was arraigned in a hearing on May 23 and assigned a public defender to represent him according to court records.
