OKLAHOMA CITY — In the course of four hours Sunday evening three people were shot to death.
One of the victims lived long enough to be taken to the hospital before dying. The other two were already dead when police arrived.
The three deaths are being counted by the Oklahoma City Police Department as homicides 51, 52, and 53 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024.
The victims who have been identified and next of kin notified are:
- Justin Ruth, 45 – Homicide 51
- Kermit Camel, 33 – Homicide 52
- Wilma-Jean Renee Tomlin, 23 – Homicide 53 (updated)
Homicide 51
Around 8:25 PM Sunday OKCPD patrol officers were dispatched to 2101 S. Harvey Avenue on reports of a shooting.
When they arrived they found Justin Ruth suffering from gunshot wounds and had him transported to the OU Medical Center where he died.
From the early parts of their investigation, detectives believe that Ruth and another man were engaged in an altercation when Ruth was shot.
The suspect, 44-year-old Carl Dustin Malone, was booked around 24 hours later into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of First Degree Murder. Bond was denied.
Homicides 52, 53
OKCPD patrol officers were dispatched to 3614 N. Lottie around 11:47 PM on reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, they found Kermit Camel, 33, and a female victim already dead from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
No arrests have been made in this case so far.
