OKLAHOMA CITY – Audiophiles and gear hounds get ready.
High-end audio boutique The Groove is set for their first-ever multi-day expo and demonstration event, showing off the kind of gear that general listening audiences can often only dream of hearing during the Experience The Groove event Thursday, October 1st and Friday, October 2nd.
The ticketed event is set to feature a full slate of engineers and representatives from some of the biggest names in connoisseur-level audio, including McIntosh, Sony, NAD, Bowers & Wilkins, and more, all hosting live demos to showcase what the equipment is capable of and what sets it apart from more standard fare.
It’s likely to be a rare opportunity for audiences and audio fans to experience this level of gear and to hear the kind of difference that can normally only be heard in appointment-only studios or among the cacophony of conventions and audio shows.
But it’s also a chance for visitors to properly check out The Groove in their new digs at 7720 N Robinson Ave, off Wilshire and the Broadway Extension.
A concept of audio/video and home theater installation pros (and next door neighbors) Smart Spaces, The Groove was originally launched in the back of The Soundbar on Automobile Alley as a micro-boutique for high-level home audio, from the most ear-perking amps and speakers to the very finest media players both digital and analog.
But incorporating video walls, projection, and a wider range of large-scale audio gear into the mix meant the need for a larger home and more focused listening/viewing spaces, so they’ve now grown into their new complex, with Experience The Groove set to introduce the new space in style.
The event’s dedicated listening and demonstration times for each of the vendors will give audiences the opportunity to not only hear the gear in action in a thoughtfully designed and treated space, but also to learn about what goes into the construction, care, and audio science from the experts themselves.
And of course there’ll be food trucks, records spinning, and loads of cool stuff for sale, too.
But the coup de grace for Experience The Groove will be a listening session with a pair of the near-mythical Nautilus speakers from Bowers & Wilkins, a truly rare opportunity for any audiophile in the know.
Launched by the company in 1993 as an attempt to perfect the air loss and directional dynamics of an ultra high-end home audio speaker, each Nautilus is hand-built and as meticulously crafted as a piece of fine sculpture (which it also kinda is,) and only around 600 speaker pairs have ever been produced across the decades.
For a lot of metro residents and curious listeners, this event could conceivably be the only time they’ll ever have a shot at seeing them set up and hearing them for real.
But more than the eye-popping price tags, head-spinning technology, and rare listening opportunities, the team behind The Groove is hoping that the expo can be a chance for music fans, gear heads, and audio connoisseurs to meet and mingle and connect over a shared love of simply, truly listening.
In an age of algorithm-generated playlists and blown-out, over-compressed pop singles blasted out of earbuds and phone speakers, the most radical and rare thing that Experience The Groove is offering might be the intention and care of actually experiencing and appreciating how beautiful sound can be.
And all for less than what you’d spend on food at the State Fair.
