OKLAHOMA CITY — A series of earthquakes startled OKC metro residents Friday night, starting around 9:37 PM and continuing until a few minutes before 11:00 PM.

Update: Earthquakes continue in the East Edmond – West Arcadia area. See our updated list below limited to the Edmond-Arcadia area.

The largest so far was a 4.4 magnitude that was easily felt throughout the OKC metro all the way past Moore to the south as shown on the shake map for that earthquake.

That magnitude is comparable to a 4.7 magnitude earthquake that was measured in the same evening in Ishigaki, Japan.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) that monitors earthquakes in the U.S. and around the world, the earthquakes originated in roughly a two-square-mile area between E. Covell on the north, E. 2nd St. on the south, N.Air Depot on the west, and N.Midwest Blvd on the east.

The Oklahoma Geological Survey based at the University of Oklahoma in Norman has released a statement cautioning all in the area to take precautions of removing items that could fall if there is heavy shaking and to take cover away from falling objects in the event of an earthquake.
