PRESS RELEASE: OKCPS invites the community to OKCPS Powwow in celebration of Native American Heritage Month

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Native American Student Services (NASS) team is proud to host its annual Powwow this Saturday, November 8, at U.S. Grant High School. The OKC community is invited to join in this vibrant celebration of Native American culture, heritage and tradition.

The Powwow festivities will begin at 1 p.m. with a Gourd Dance, followed by the Grand Entry at 6 p.m. Families are encouraged to come and go throughout the day to enjoy traditional songs, dances, and community fellowship. The new Miss Native American OKCPS will also be crowned at 5:45 p.m.  

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the event will also feature a vendor market, offering authentic Native-made arts, crafts, jewelry and more.

“This Powwow is a special time for our students, families, and community to come together in celebration and honor of Native culture,” said Native American Student Services Director Dr. Star Yellowfish. “We invite everyone to experience the traditions that continue to thrive within Oklahoma and right here in our city and school district.”

The OKCPS Powwow is free and open to the public.

Time: 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
