Ward 8 Oklahoma City Councilman Mark Stonecipher has been appointed Chair of the Large Cities Council for the National League of Cities (NLC).

Councilman Stonecipher was selected to serve a one-year term to develop and guide programs among elected officials from other large cities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Kevin Kramer, Councilmember of Louisville, KY.

“National League of Cities’ member councils design and create NLC’s policies that bring together innovative ideas and solutions to the biggest challenges facing local leaders across the country,” National League of Cities President Kevin Kramer, Councilmember, Louisville, Kentucky said. “I am thrilled Councilman Mark Stonecipher is leading NLC’s Large Cities Council as we work together to ensure our cities have the resources they need to create thriving communities.”

As a member of NLC’s Large Cities Council, Councilman Stonecipher will play a key role among a diverse group of leaders to encourage collaboration, networking and resource development with large cities that share common issues.

“I always enjoy partnering with other cities to share ideas and solve problems,” Councilman Stonecipher said. “It is an effective way to learn how other cities are tackling similar issues such as public safety, AI efficiencies in planning, development and permitting processes, innovative revenue streams for roads and infrastructure improvements, addressing affordable housing demands and homelessness. From our exchange of ideas I have learned we often have more in common than what sets us apart.”

This year’s large cities council leadership includes Vice Chair Councilwoman Darla Bonk from Fort Myers, FL and Vice Chair Alderman Jose Perez from Milwaukee, WI.
