Two booked for murder in Eastside OKC shooting death

OKLAHOMA CITY — Two brothers have been booked for murder in the death of a woman at an Eastside OKC hotel.

  • Cherri Brooks, 36, died at the hospital from gunshot wounds.

The death marks homicide #13 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024.

Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were sent to the Relax Inn hotel at 2211 NE 23rd Street in the dark early hours of Monday around 4:16 AM on reports of a shooting.

When they arrived they found Brooks in one of the hotel rooms with gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital where she died from her wounds.

At the scene, officers were able to quickly put out information on two suspects’ vehicle that left the scene after the shooting.

Shortly after, two suspects were detained by officers from the Edmond Police Department and then transported to the OKCPD Homicide Unit for questioning.

Both were then arrested and booked for First Degree Murder:

  • Zaviare Swain, 19 — booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center
  • His underage brother — taken to Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center (Berry House)
