OKLAHOMA CITY — At first confusing police, what appeared to be a head injury on an elderly woman turned out to be a gunshot wound that eventually took her life.
Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched to 4036 NW 36th St. to check the well-being of 72-year-old Kathleen Cade.
When they arrived they found Cade in her bed with some sort of a head wound.
“Initially it appeared Ms. Cade suffered some kind of laceration, and she was ultimately taken by ambulance to the hospital to be evaluated,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk in a press release.
After an evaluation, the hospital notified the OKCPD that her injury was a gunshot wound.
Cade was kept on life support for seven days and then taken off on August 14 at 12:45 PM. After that, Cade died.
The OKCPD is counting the death as homicide 60 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024.
Detectives now believe that a stray bullet “entered her room in the early morning hours of August 7th while she laid in bed. The round was believed to have entered her room from NW 36th Street,” said Sgt. Quirk.
At publication, no arrests have been made.
OKCPD urges anyone with information to call the Homicide Tip Line at 405/297-1200.
