OKLAHOMA CITY — A woman was shot to death while talking with friends from her car on the Southside Tuesday afternoon.
It is homicide #3 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2025.
Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched to 1411 SW 38th around 2:04 PM on reports of a shooting.
As they arrived they found 24-year-old Jasmine Chavez in a car that had hit part of a church building nearby.
They found that Chavez was suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds according to the OKCPD press release from MSgt. Gary Knight.
Chavez was transported to a nearby hospital where she died.
After their initial investigation, detectives now believe that Chavez stopped to talk to friends along the street “when she was shot.” They believe that after being shot Chavez tried to drive away but then hit the building and came to a stop about a block away.
Two have been arrested and booked, one an adult and the other a juvenile teen:
- Ryan Jones, 19 — Booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of First Degree Murder.
- An underage teen — booked into the Juvenile Detention Center (Berry House) also on a complaint of First Degree Murder.
The investigation continues.
