Southside murder hotspot yields 4th homicide in 2022

-- UPDATED -- Suspects arrested - homicide #64 for the City of OKC in 2022

OKLAHOMA CITY (Free Press) — A man was found dead from gunshot wounds Friday morning at the Bestway Inn near south I-35 and S.E. 29th Street.

UPDATE –– Police released the names of the victim Monday, Oct. 24.

  • Samuel Grisby, 51 — victim

Monday, police also released the names of those arrested in the case:

  • Jarret Johnson, 30 — booked for Murder in the first degree
  • Carion Lenox, 28 — booked for Murder in the first degree

The Bestway Inn sits next to the infamous Plaza Inn facing the east I-35 Service Road running south from S.E. 29th.

OKCPD detectives and the Oklahoma County DA are even busier now that four homicides have occurred in 2022 in that one-block stretch.

It is the first homicide on the Bestway Inn property this year.

The Plaza Inn notched its third homicide of 2022 just ten days before and has a long history as the scene of violence throughout recent years.

Sound of gunshots

Police were called to the motel at 5:17 a.m. to investigate sounds of gunshots.

When they arrived they found a man dead “who appeared to have been shot to death” according to an Oklahoma City Police Department news release by MSgt. Gary Knight.

No arrests have been made and the victim has not been positively identified as of Friday morning.
