OKLAHOMA CITY — An altercation of some sort between roommates Thursday ended with one dead and the other in the Oklahoma County Detention Center (OCDC.)
It was homicide #12 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2023.
Officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) were called to an apartment complex in the 3300 block of S.W. 74th Street at 9:38 a.m.
Once there, they found Matthew Harvey, 20, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators believe that Ross Watkins, 47, Harvey’s roommate, was the one who shot Harvey.
Watkins was arrested and booked into the OCDC for possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony.
As of publication, Watkins has not been booked for a homicide.
An OKCPD press release about the homicide stated, “The district attorney’s office will determine if any charges are appropriate relating to the shooting.”
OKCPD is asking anyone with any information to contact the Homicide Tip Line at 405/297-1200.
We will continue to update this story if we gain any more reliable information.
Note: As of publication, the information provided by the OKCPD has not yet been tested in court. Under the law, all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty before a jury of their peers or a plea of guilt.
