The Flaming Lips will perform the hit album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots in its entirety on August 30. The next night, the Lips return to play The Soft Bulletin, track by track, at the newly upgraded outdoor venue.
Released in July 2002, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots remains the commercial high-water mark in The Flaming Lips’ wild four-decade journey, giving the GRAMMY® award-winners their first RIAA certified Gold Record. As the eagerly awaited follow-up to 1999’s masterwork, The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi proved that singer/guitarist Wayne Coyne and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd had yet another masterpiece in them including the track “Do You Realize??” which became the Official Rock Song of Oklahoma in 2009.
The Zoo Amphitheatre remains one of Oklahoma City’s most iconic and unique concert venues. Currently, the Zoo Amphitheatre is undergoing infrastructure and facilities updates and is committed to retaining its history and integrity. Built in the mid-1930s, the Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre was a project of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the economic recovery program established to provide jobs during the depression.
