The Celebration Continues! Humanity has a long way to go to end racism. The Oklahoma City Martin Luther King, Jr. Alliance, Inc. continues to unite in celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with our 40th Annual Tree of Life Celebration. Five years after Dr. King’s birthday was named a national holiday, the OKC MLK Alliance spearheaded efforts and planted a Tree of Life at the Oklahoma State Capitol in 1984. The Tree of Life represents roots, future growth, and resilience, as we weather the storms of life and the daily struggles for justice and equality. Despite acts of vandalism over the years, the tree continues to stand full of life.
On Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. we invite you, your business or congregation, and the community to join us at the Tree of Life Celebration on the grounds of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Winners of this year’s Essay & Poster contest will be announced and presented awards for their hard work.
As we take time to celebrate Dr. King, lest we forget we all have unique gifts that enable us to do our part to eliminate racism.
Join us as we commit to finishing the work on ending racism.
