The Metropolitan Library System sends this information as posted below:
Oklahoma City, OK – The Metropolitan Library System is excited to continue the beloved Summer Reading Program, open to readers of all ages, from toddlers to seniors throughout June and July. For over 90 years, this cherished program has encouraged daily reading, promoting lifelong literacy and fostering community engagement through fun activities, exciting prizes and enriching experiences.
The Summer Reading Program helps prevent the “summer slide,” a common learning loss that can occur during school breaks, by encouraging children to read just 20 minutes a day. These few minutes can make a big impact on a child’s literacy and academic development. Participants earn points by reading and completing enjoyable activities, with 600 points unlocking prizes such as books, custom library tote bags and entries into exciting giveaway drawings. Those who continue tracking beyond 600 points will be rewarded with additional prize entries.
Teens are also invited to get involved by volunteering to assist with program sign-ups, prize distribution, events and craft activities, giving an excellent way to gain community service hours and leadership experience.
Readers can track their progress digitally through the Beanstack app or pick up a paper log at any library location. Full details and registration information are available at metrolibrary.org/summerreading.
