PRESS RELEASE: Seniors invited to free Informed Senior Seminar May 1

The City of OKC sends this information as posted below:

Oklahoma City seniors can connect with the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Fire Department, other law enforcement agencies and senior-focused experts by attending the Informed Senior Seminar from 8:30 – 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1. The event will be held in the OSU-OKC Student Center, located on the third floor, 900 N. Portland Ave.

The free event is designed to empower older adults with practical safety tips and valuable resources.

“We want seniors to feel informed, confident and connected,” OKC’s TRIAD Coordinator Sheryl Presley said. “This seminar brings together experts to answer questions and share practical tips that help keep our community safe—both online and at home.”

The seminar will feature a Q&A panel discussion on “AI Literacy & Safety” with representatives from the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, helping seniors navigate technology safely in today’s digital world.

In addition to the seminar, attendees can meet and/or adopt dogs from OKC Animal Welfare. All participating dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives.

Attendees can also participate in informative breakout sessions, including:

  • Facebook Safety Tips – Oklahoma City Police Department
  • Steps to Safety with Lithium-Ion Batteries – Oklahoma City Fire Department
  • Protect Your Home—Protect Your Wallet: Avoid Roofing Scams
  • Healthy Eating Updates – Oklahoma City County Health Department

OKC Animal Welfare is also offering free pet ID tags to participants. Representatives from the MAPS Health & Wellness Centers and other senior-focused organizations will be available to answer questions.
