PRESS RELEASE: Residents and business owners invited to community meeting about the Adventure District

The City of OKC sends this information as posted below:

Business owners, residents and community organizers are invited to a community meeting to discuss the possibility of creating new Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts in and around the Adventure District.

The meeting will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Millwood High School, 6718 N Martin Luther King Ave.

Hosted by Ward 7 Councilwoman Nikki Nice, the meeting is an opportunity for people to learn how TIF districts work and how the potential TIF district boundaries were drawn. Attendees can also hear about upcoming City projects and engage with partner agencies.

This map shows the six potential TIF districts in and around the Adventure District. They would span from NE Grand Boulevard to the east of N Bryant Avenue and from Interstate 44 to south of NE 50th Street. TIF districts are active for 25 years, and the six districts could start at separate times to align with planned development within each district.

“This meeting is an opportunity for our residents to understand one of the many tools the city has in our toolkit to further economic growth and amenities within the designated boundary,” Councilwoman Nice said. “I look forward to hearing feedback from our residents about this unique consideration.”

There are 15 TIF districts in Oklahoma City. TIFs are economic tools cities use to promote development. They allow cities to use a portion of property taxes generated within the district to invest in its growth and development.

When private investments within a TIF district lead to higher property values, the resulting increase in property tax revenue is reinvested within the district.
