Oklahoma City, OK – Pivot, A Turning Point for Youth, celebrated the opening of its new Goodrich Counseling Center with a ribbon cutting on June 4. Through ARPA funding and partnership with the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs, the new center will increase Pivot’s capacity to meet the mental health needs of young people in the Oklahoma City community.
Staff and the board wanted to honor President and CEO of Pivot, Jennifer Goodrich, for her dedication to the nonprofit. They decided to name the Center after Goodrich as a surprise to thank her for her commitment to mental health in our community.
With over 30 years of professional experience, she has served in multiple capacities in the mental health and substance abuse field. As a part of Pivot since 1999,Goodrich has had the opportunity to address the needs of youth who experience layers of trauma, involvement in child welfare and juvenile justice, and youth experiencing homelessness, alongside a talented and dedicated staff who put the needs of clients first.
“We are overjoyed to be able to expand our capacity to reach more young people, but I am also overwhelmed through the honor of being able to do so in the Goodrich Counseling Center,” said President and CEO Jennifer Goodrich.“This improved space will allow our staff to meet more youth where they’re at to bring them toward a more hopeful future. It’s more than we could’ve imagined.”
Pivot renovated and reimagined underutilized space in the back of their building to create what is now the new counseling center.
“Pivot has consistently been one of our most vital partners serving the Oklahoma City community,” said OJA Executive Director Jeffrey Cartmell. “The newly expanded counseling center on the Pivot campus will facilitate an even greater reach to our youth and families most in need.”
Last year, Pivot therapists saw 523 clients for sessions while our Supporting Kids in Independent Living (SKIL) case managers helped meet the needs of 273 young people. Thanks to the funding for this renovation, Pivot will be able to continue hiring for these important positions to double capacity of supporting even more youth.
