PRESS RELEASE: Oklahoma City Fire Department reminds residents fireworks are illegal in OKC

The Oklahoma City Fire Department sends this information as posted below:

As Independence Day approaches, the Oklahoma City Fire Department is reminding residents that consumer fireworks are illegal within Oklahoma City limits and encourages everyone to celebrate safely by attending one of the many professional fireworks displays taking place across the metro area.

Each year, fireworks contribute to injuries, residential fires, grass fires, and property damage. By leaving fireworks to trained professionals, families can enjoy the holiday while helping reduce the risk of preventable emergencies.

“Professional fireworks displays provide a safe and enjoyable way to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day,” said Fire Chief Richard Kelley. “Choosing to attend a public display instead of using consumer fireworks helps protect your family, your neighbors, and our community.”

Residents can enjoy professional fireworks displays at the following locations:

  • July 2: OKC Comets – Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark
  • July 3: OKC Comets, Frontier City, OKC Philharmonic
  • July 4: OKC Comets, Frontier City, OKANA Resort

Reporting Illegal Fireworks

To help keep emergency phone lines available for life-threatening emergencies, residents are asked not to call 911 to report illegal fireworks. Call 911 only if someone has been injured by fireworks or if fireworks have caused a fire.

If you know the address where illegal fireworks are being discharged, report the violation using one of the following methods:

The Oklahoma City Fire Department wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day and thanks residents for doing their part to help keep the community safe.
