YUKON (Sept. 19, 2024) — Mollie Spencer Farm’s annual Monarch Festival on Sept. 28 will offer the opportunity to learn about supporting butterfly populations, which are decreasing because of habitat loss and other factors. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, is free for people of all ages.

The festival will feature a variety of educational and family-friendly activities, including monarch-themed crafts, face painting and a seed ball-making station. Visitors can also meet with the Canadian County Master Gardeners, who will provide expert guidance on creating butterfly-friendly gardens that help sustain these vital pollinators.

Emma Newberry-Davis, programs manager at Mollie Spencer Farm, expressed the importance of monarch education.

“Monarchs play a crucial role in the ecosystem as pollinators, yet their populations are at risk,” she said. “The Monarch Festival offers a unique opportunity for families to explore science and nature while learning about the vital role of monarchs.”
