The Metro Park Neighborhood Association sends this information as posted below:

OKC, OK – Metro Park Neighborhood Association (MPNA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF).

The grant is one of eleven awarded this year through OCCF’s Parks & Public Space Initiative/MAB grant program, totaling $200,491. The mission of the program is to support the beautification, development and activation of neighborhood and community parks, schools, trails and other public lands.

MPNA has contracted with neighborhood professionals at Sweetleaf Landscaping and Native Plants Nursery to design a landscaping and hardscaping plan that will feature native drought resistant ornamental plants, Oklahoma quarried boulders and other natively-sourced materials.

Running West from the intersection of N. Western and Linwood, this phase of the plan calls for transforming up to four medians running down the center of the Boulevard. The landscaping improvements will compliment and accentuate the public art that has been installed over the last few years thanks to the initiative of MPNA and the City of Oklahoma City. We at MPNA are so excited and grateful to see the realization of this next step in the process of community improvement that has been at the heart of our mission and vision. We envision a transformation of Linwood from a blighted streetscape to a bustling thoroughfare full of positivity, excitement and creativity.

Thanks to the generosity of OCCF, we can continue our long-term commitment to placemaking on Linwood Boulevard. By bringing beautiful artwork, plant life and native landscape design tothe thoroughfare, we hope to attract restaurateurs, retail establishments or other businesses that will be excited about becoming part of our community, and will in turn further build a sense of place and home among Metro Park neighbors.

Christina Brightwell Thompson Leadership Team Captain for Metro Park NeighborhoodAssociation had this to say, “For projects and events, we come together. We delegate. Weexecute. With the support of OCCF the changes on Linwood will be transcendent not only for Metro Park, but for all of Midtown Oklahoma City.”
